As a new student to the University of Texas I knew I wanted to get involved somehow but while trying to gain my instate residency by working 20+ hours a week and keeping my grades up there was no way I could do as much as I wanted to. What I found scrolling through the long list of student activities online was a chapter for HerCampus, a site dedicated to college girls or as they say "collegiettes" across the country and now other parts of the world. The site posts on topics from beauty, health, academics, style, etc. I had found the site during highschool and would browse it from time to time because as suggests it is the voice for so many parts of a girls life. What I didn't know so much about at the time was that most universities have their own chapter of HerCampus, which allows students from that school to not only write for HerCampus but for others to read about subjects that are more close to home and relatable. I knew if I wanted to be a journalist I had to start somewhere, and why not have it be for a website I already loved. Since the week I found the UT HerCampus I have been an avid writer and am now an Officer for our chapter! HerCampus has given me the opportunity to meet so many new people through interviews, passes to go and cover an Austin Beauty Expo, and write about some of my favorite things like Dazed and Confused's 20th anniversary. If any of you get the chance I highly recommend checking out the website and following us on twitter @HerCampusTexas. Feel free to check out my latest stories and or give me any ideas for my next one.
